iBanknet Blog
Spring Filings Fling
Saturday, April 5, 2008
When opportunity presents itself …. well, once again it did and we just couldn’t resist – we’ve built another widget – this time an SEC Filings Widget!
Recently, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) added feeds for corporate and individual filings. This is a big advancement in that all the lists of filings are now accessible in an electronically tagged format (ATOM). For a really good explanation of what the SEC has done and what it means, check out the IR Web Report blog, "SEC adds free news feeds to EDGAR".
Both our iBanknet widget and Executive Pay widget are RSS-based, so it seemed like a good idea to create a widget that uses this new tagged data that is in a format very similar to RSS (ATOM).
The SEC Filings Widget is a small footprint application that allows you to view both the latest SEC filings and the most recent filings for a company based on the ticker or CIK number. It’s like having the SEC Filings web pages encapsulated in a mini handy-dandy tool that you can take just about anywhere. You can even look up filings on your iPod!
We set it up so that any company filing at the SEC can be searched by ticker or CIK number and optionally filtered by form type. Users can click through to the SEC to view the individual filing, corporation filings page, latest filings page or view any of the ATOM feeds.
Both Chris and I are already finding it extremely useful and we hope you will too.
Enjoy,
Marian
